“Do you know what the saddest thing in the world is?” Claire asked one night, reclining on the lawn next to him.
Oliver shifted to look at her. “What?”
She stared up at the stars, as if trying to pull a truth from them.
“Knowing exactly what you need to feel whole… and realizing you'll probably NEVER have it.”
The words were close to Oliver's own terrors, and his chest felt suddenly heavy.
Claire met his gaze, her eyes probing his face, as though she could look into his very soul.
“Do you believe it's worse to never have found what you were looking for, or to have it and not know how to hold it?”
The quiet between them became thick.
And with soft finality, she whispered—
“Some truths are too BIG to hold, but too small to escape.”

This snippet is exquisite. Its quiet yet heavy with existential weight. If this is from a larger work. I'd love to read more! If standalone, it's a gem.
I love the concept of “thick quiet” Beautiful.
Amazing!
Whoa, this is so deep. Well written
Wow, so powerful - this one will have me thinking for awhile. This is such a powerful concept!
I am in awe of how the idea came and turned into wisdom excellent

Deep thoughts, well written
Damn... That was a powerful conversation - and they only said a few lines! It's so true, too. True and sad. Wonderfully written as always, Komal. This one really makes you think.
AH! I have felt this so many times <3 The universe is a vast, empty space. Perhaps this feeling is our soul knowing that we are one with the universe, and that the space between all of our particles mimics the stars in the void. We are truly alone in that moment - nothing could ever fill us up.
And those truths, my friend, are the ones that we are the most petrified of. The so near yet so far feeling!
