I paint my life
In shades of blue
This prescribed palette
Doesn’t leave my hand
And the brush in the other
Steadfast and diligent
Ready to mask the softness
Of those periwinkle emotions
The audacity of the acrylics
To only offer sapphire
When I wasn’t yet prepared for
A shift
A change
For it
When luck is on my side
The paint
It peels
Offering the lighter hues
A forgotten smile
I rip the chips away
To let what was hidden
Breathe
You can look at it
A million ways
It still holds true
No matter the angle
It’s always tinted
In blue
