Indigo

(for Patricia Lee “Indigo” Evoy, October, 1996 – March, 2016)

“Strong-headed, rebellious

and beautiful in every way,”

they say. And your press-sing

picture said your third-eyed

beauty saw eternity in every day-more lived –

gave strength to the breeze that breathed wings

into your violet night-strong

hair, and when voiced, rejoiced

over you with a song called, “Indigo.”

Earth's heart now beats bigger

for the width of your rib-bones

around it; your wings broke

through the broken world-wealth

cage, and any ear-to-the-ground

can hear the sound of richer

soil: a sovereign glowing soul

smouldered too long, and solo'd

too fast, seen-and-heard too little

till front page mused too late.

I will look for your spirit next spring

in the most majestic Crow, Indigo.

I will listen for your song

when the long wait pulls me

down. Your music will move things,

lift life up and out my

Crown Chakra, untying

my knotted heart on the way.

sad poetry
