In Flight

the beauty of the bird in flight

what ease and gentle course

soaring above, at day and night

we gaze at the ever majestic eagle

smile at the floating hummingbird

what we are here below

in the undertones of flight

imagining where we’d go

but what does the bird think

looking down at us wild things

do they journey for want or need

as they travel place to place

flying to enjoyment or to feed

as the grass is greener

on the other side

now what may we learn

to cherish what we hold

and not let our envy burn
