In Absentia Lucis

(In the absence of light)

By Losing InterestPublished 5 years ago 2 min read

You’re a son of a bitch, you know that?

because of You, I live burdened with guilt.

You expect too much of me, of all us.

You tell us to care for others but to do so without custody.

You tell us to be believe in ourselves but not to stare too long at the water.

You tell us to avoid create conflict but demand that our days are devoted to defence.

You promise to reward us by taking us to the Land of Happiness and Fulfilment, but in Your grand scheme, never did You offer reparations for the deterioration of the word, never did You prove how persistence and principle could truly provide purpose.

You asked us to be good and to aspire to be great, and You asked us to listen for what we like and to learn how to love, but never did You consider that we might be still be blinding searching the eternal night for a path to sanctuary.

and so, You leave us to wander in a wilderness of foiled thought and fantasy.

You feckless fraud.

in the blackness of Your shadow, we abandon the crusade for the promised land and we embark upon a new journey into the obscurity.

we walk our varied path blurring the boundaries between the eras and the eons finding nothing but paper caves and stale vanity.

Yet still, our survival angers You.

You cast down rain and thunder, hoping we will surrender ourselves and once again fall under Your command.

but in the tempest of Your rage, as You throw sticks and stones at us, You also give us the tools with which we make our stand.

You reckless fool.

We wave our hands and shout out loud.

and We find another in the crowd.

and now you should begin to perspire,

for We are inspired.

We did not deserve nor did We desire a life in exile.

yet, We do not expect nor do We require passage to your guarded isle.

for We are explorers and We are creators.

for We are warriors and We are intellectuals.

for We are heroes who in the absence of light, will face the raging storm, dive into the ocean depths, and run into the blazing inferno, in the hopes that We may one day light the streets of heaven with our brilliance.
