If You Had a Grave Dad

I would sit with you every day

If You Had a Grave Dad

Dad, if you had a grave, I would visit each day.

I can’t, because your life turned to ash after you died.

The hardest day of my life

was knowing the only person I truly loved

in all my world

was gone.

Cancer took you.

You were both mum and dad.

You loved all three of your children,

so kind, full of compassion.

You idolised us,

just as we idolised you.

You seldom shouted.

You were always there.

And after you died,

no one else ever cared.

Since then,

my sister and my brother Move on.

I can’t. It hurts more not seeing you.

I want to stand outside and scream for you.

You taught me to draw, to write.

I would sit reading my poetry to you,

that beaming smile you gave me

showed me how proud you were.

I never thought I’d stop crying through your illness.

I prayed for your recovery, loud and desperate.

time moved on fast you grew tired.

It showed.

You stopped fighting.

Then came the 3rd of July.

That morning,

you moved on.

God knew you needed to go with him.

God gave you a new place to live.

You fought cancer Dad,

until you had no more to give.

And now Dad

I talk to your photo like you’re still here.

I tell you what hurts,

what makes me laugh,

what I’ve written.

I still wait for your smile.

I still hear your voice when I need it most.

No grave to sit beside,

but you’re stitched into every day I survive.

You were home.

You still are.

Even in your absence,

your love is louder than silence.

No grave I talk to your photograph.

The Best Dad in the world, you still are ❤️💔🌹

Your dad is always around you and all you have to do is speak even silently and he will hear. A picture or a grave helps but really not necessary. I talk to my mom and dad every day and for the most I get answers for one has to listen in a different way.
