Our minds once entertained, on a cold, barren winter,
when snow refused to fall,
a week of intellectual wonder,
Now and again, we reminisce on the
time that never was,
on the what-ifs and
what could have been.
Now we look to the future,
but the question still remains —
will we walk together,
down a road that never promised
much at all —?

Such human questions down the ages...hope you find the answer
It's always those kinda uncertainties that makes me overthink so much. Loved your poem!
Your poem denotes the comparison between a barren winter to that of a love that promises no fruit, this was so seamless that it led to another conclusion - the selfishness of a lick and a promise, and the selflessness to be okay with it.
It’s refreshing to see such honesty and vulnerability in writing.
