I Never Saw

(Verse 1)
In the silence of our living room,
The dust danced in beams of light,
No stories told from sacred pages worn,
No prayers whispered in the night.
Yet Sunday mornings, dressed so right,
With polished smiles, they’d take their stand,
But when the sermon faded out,
The truth slipped through their hands.
(Chorus)
I never saw my parents open the Bible at home,
But that is where the hatred and gossip was owned
Kindness and compassion was always shamed
And mockery, contempt and ridicule was the game
In the echoes of laughter, the derision would flow,
I never saw them read the Bible,
Yet they always put on a very good show.
(Verse 2)
In the hallways of our home, their dark shadows would play,
Singing songs of the weekend, in their own twisted way.
Each whispered and snickered about others' woes,
Like an anthem of the blind,
While in the stillness of real life,
Their souls were left behind.
(Bridge)
But I searched for something deeper,
In the cracks of our facade,
Hoping to find redemption,
In the midst of all the hard knocks
I learned to seek the truth,
In the prayers deep at night,
Beyond the Sunday promises,
I somehow found the light.
I never saw my paents open the Bible at home.
