Daughter of an Evil Man

By Julie O'Hara - Author, Poet and Spiritual WarriorPublished 3 months ago 2 min read

(Verse 1)

I could never meet his gaze,

Afraid of what I'd find,

A chasm filled with darkness,

A truth that chilled my mind.

To the world, he brought laughter,

A jester full of glee,

But I sensed the shadows lurking,

That no one else could see.

(Chorus)

I could never look him in the eyes,

Fearing the truth I’d find,

The beast beneath the polished smile,

A cruelty intertwined.

No hugs to draw me safely near,

No kisses on my brow,

From a young age, I felt the weight,

Of the darkness then and now.

(Verse 2)

His humor was a cover,

A mask that hid the pain,

But in the quiet moments,

I felt the hidden strain.

With every word, I built a wall,

To keep the shadows out,

For I knew beneath that friendly guise,

Lurking was his doubt.

(Chorus)

I could never look him in the eyes,

Fearing the truth I’d find,

The beast beneath the polished smile,

A cruelty intertwined.

No hugs to draw me safely near,

No kisses on my brow,

From a young age, I felt the weight,

Of the darkness then and now.

(Bridge)

As I grew, I learned to wander,

Through the echoes of my fear,

Finding strength within my spirit,

To chase away the drear.

Breaking free from chains of dread,

I turned my pain to song,

Reclaiming all the light within,

Where I’ve always felt I belong.

(Chorus)

I could never look him in the eyes,

Fearing the truth I’d find,

The beast beneath the polished smile,

A cruelty intertwined.

No hugs to draw me safely near,

No kisses on my brow,

But I’m learning to embrace the light,

In a world that’s mine right now.

(Outro)

So I’ll rise above those memories,

And face what I can see,

No more shadows from the past,

Just the strength to truly be.

With courage in my heart, I know,

I’ll craft my own design,

And leave behind the haunted halls,

To find the love that’s mine.
