Once upon a time
I saw you sitting there
and once upon a time
I fell in love
I remember seeing you sitting there
Looking so scared and shy
You looked alone in this big
scary world
You were sitting under the tent
with tears in your eyes
You looked up at me
and I knew right then and there
that I had to do something
I looked down at you
and saw your gorgeous brown eyes
and dark wavy hair
all alone
and afraid
and remember thinking to myself,
I'm going to be here for you
because I know how it feels
to be alone in the streets
waiting to see
who will help
a friend in need.
I took you home
took care of you as my own
and wondered
how had the universe known?
For that very morning
I had been sitting at my window
praying
asking God
if I could have a child of my own.
And as I sit here,
15 years later, straiting your tie
as you are about to walk down the aisle.
I couldn't be more proud
of the man that I see in front of me,
and it's hard to see
the boyishness in your face.
You've grown up a lot
and aren't the same boy
I met under the tent.
About the Creator
Lorelai Breedlove
I started writing when I was 10 and I never stopped. I started because I felt it was a great way to express yourself and not have to say it to anyone. I've never been one to tell people what I'm thinking, so writing was a good for me. :)
