Waiting awkwardly, waiting...

Waiting, awkwardly waiting...

Steam curls over the brim,

my reflection stares back, nervous.

I open the app, 25 times too many,

Their profile stares back.

I look at their face, memorizing,

what if I don't recognize them?

Logic speaks up, balancing anxiety,

"They'll show or they won't."

"You're right."

Here...

The words pop up on the screen.

My stomach flips, my feet ready to run,

but I look up.

Our eyes find each other, instantly,

like they know one another.

My heart pounds painfully,

but their smile is everything.

A sunny morning, a green field,

a bird's song, a spice I can't place.

They walk to me, never looking away,

until they're here.

"Hi." Still that smile.

"Hi." My own smile.

I can't see the future,

but still I know.

I know they belong in my heart,

and I'm happy to wait.
