I Know My Truth
Respect

I know my truth
And it is not the one my abusers
Have assigned to me
And tried to mold me into
For their own benefit
Using hateful words,
Slaps and punches
And gossip
I know my truth
And it is not the one my family
And some so-called friends
Have chosen to believe
About me
With misplaced self-righteous loyalty
Choosing to believe my abusers
Enjoying the salaciousness of my degradation
Rather than accepting what your
Eyes and your heart tell you is real
I know my truth
And I stand firm in who I am
I see the scars of all I have gone through
And if your love and acceptance is contingent
Upon me being the caricature
My abusers have painted of me
If my truth makes you uncomfortable
And unable to stand up for what is right
Then it’s chin up, tits out for me
