I Have Eaten The Belly Of Your Greatest Beasts

She’ll answer when you question her strength

She is a survivor, skin as tough as a boot

I’ve watched her laugh in the face of evil,

As she holds on tight within her struggles

Finding solutions I believe were medieval.

***

You may look on her as being a tad fragile

But she’ll never be known as a cat’s meow,

You’re in for a surprise when you see her win

As some prefer to liken her as a tiger’s growl.

***

I have seen her race all the ocean predators

Other times I’ve watched her swim the highway,

Drop her in a forest of trees to again witness

Her strength, her power, her stubborn foreplay.

***

Where did she find her hidden inner strength

Go ahead and ask her, I advise with a sly smile,

I’ll guarantee you will be awkwardly surprised

She’ll look at you with the guile of a crocodile.

***

I can hear her whispering to you her answer

“I was born of the meteorite of the blazing sun,

I’ve lived in the fires of your fearful nightmares

While promising the afterlife I’ll not be undone.”

***

I nod my head knowingly and I see you quiver

As she finishes with you on her final words,

“I have eaten the belly of your greatest beasts

My name’s your destroyer, haven’t you heard?”

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
