What An Imagination

It’s actually quite adorable, do you agree

She loves the mornings, just after waking

It’s her favourite time of the day, play time,

She has an imagination unheard of before

As she plays her games, wars and mimes.

***

She can fly, with her pretty butterfly wings

Some days she converts into a huge giant,

She can morph into any shape she wants

Her mind bends physically to be compliant.

***

She spends most of her time on her own

That is unless you count her many pets,

Preferring her animal love and adoration

Over the up and downs of humans upset.

***

She does adore the old Disney story tales

In her mind it’s where she prefers to exist,

A princess one day, elf with wings the next

Plots that excite especially with a twist.

***

Today she’s happy she’s extremely creative

As she distorts her image into that of an elf,

With the most gorgeous of butterfly wings

Moulded by the children’s book on her shelf.

***

Her side kick today is a cute sausage dog

Extended like a long concertinaed slinky,

It’s actually quite adorable, do you agree

Changing things just by shaking her pinkie.

***

Her imagination at times is definitely wild

An example is her playground set up today,

Which is a twist and curl of an orange’s skin

An obstacle course on which they can play.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
