I Dreamt I Was a Butterfly

Transformation

By Cindy CalderPublished about a year ago Updated about a year ago 1 min read

The soft breeze whispers, propelling me through the air

About the garden strewn with flowers in their finest array

Morning’s misty dew and streams of sunlight’s bright glare

Illuminate the fantasy of playful ways in splendid disarray.

*

Delicate legs seek ground and find balance as I land

Upon a tiger lily's petals, growing tall and to the sky

I flit, I flutter all about and flap my wings where I stand

My beauty echoes a rhythm in charms that cannot be denied.

*

Startled, I awaken, thoroughly drenched with sweat -

I can smell aromatic floral scents as they linger still

Like the velvet touch of the flower petal my feet met

The haunting wisp of a lily lives wrapped within the thrill.

*

My mind wonders: do I have arms in lieu of widespread wings

Or is this fretful state of being human only but a dream

The echo of floral delights armed with the midst of spring,

Brings to mind visions of a day’s measure in utmost extremes.

*

A new sense of freedom encompasses mind and being

A welcome birth of new awakenings, much long sought

Completing inner worth as with new eyes I am seeing

Truth of enlightenment, a transformation dawn has wrought.

That breath of fresh air, then the tension, and finally the sigh! Great poem, Cindy!

Well-wrought! "Is all that we see or seem But a dream within a dream?" Poe's immortal lines echo immortal sentiments, which reverberate here too with your own!
