Crossroads

The experience of first love can be cruel.

For those who are blessed, true love will leave a mark on the soul,

Changing, ebbing, growing with all that love endures.

Your soul is touched, aflame and burning with desire,

With a love that crosses oceans and lifetimes.

But you were my kryptonite,

My only weakness, and with one bright spark,

You burnt my soul to the ground.

All that remains are ashes from memories long forgotten.

That first glimpse when the axis of my world tilted,

Forgetting to breathe, as my heart hammers loudly in my ears,

In that moment, I could feel the universe placing me at a crossroad,

And knowing that your next decision will decide your fate.

Did you know that you had the power to make me love you?

Did you know that I wouldn’t be able to resist?

Did you know that our lives would never be the same,

Forever changed.

Eyes as dark as your soul, glance at me across the room,

And I cannot look away.

You smile and walk towards me,

Even as I want to flee.

The crowd around us ebbs and flows, surging and pushing,

But you never hesitate, and you never leave my side.

The magnetic force between us is tangible,

You have chained me to your soul.

You lean in to claim me, to mark me as yours,

Lips that taste salty, heavenly, forbidden,

Skin that glistens, smooth like chocolate,

I am defenceless, I am yours.

The craving is constant,

Burning for your touch, your nearness,

Wanting, yearning,

A desire that never abates, never recedes.

No one ever told me that love at first sight is painful,

The physical pull, the awareness,

Your soul screams to be heard,

You no longer control your desires; you are consumed.

The price has been paid in broken dreams and shattered remnants,

When two lovers collide without guidance, before their time,

The resulting devastation flattens all.

The scars remain forever, while the memories dimly fade.
