I Dreamed a Dream

I dreamed a dream

Hand in hand,

With death I walked

We walked in silence,

Towards an end I couldn't see

But the end never came

On we walked

How far,

I know not

At some point in time,

His hand I lost

So side by side we walked

As we walk,

Still with no end in sight

Death began to fall behind

Still nothing he said

So onward I went,

But the end never came

I turned to death

And found myself alone

No trace was there

Of the path I had walked

And death was gone

I stood and waited,

But death never came

Neither did the end

I dreamed a dream

That death was gone

No comfort came though

For death was an end

And now I had none
