I Don't Want to Scare You Away

It’s four o’clock in the morning

And I’ve started this letter ten times

My heart knows what it wants to say,

Why are the words so hard to write?

Baby, we’ve been friends for such a long time

That’s something I don’t want to change.

I’ve got to say, “I love you” just right

Cuz I don’t want to scare you away.

I don’t want to scare you away

That’s not my intention at all

I just want more than friendship from you

But I’m scared you won’t feel the same way

Still we’re both grown, and we know the score

Nothing between us will ever be the same

Once the words, “I love you” have been said

And I don’t want to scare you away.

The sun outside is starting to rise

The words are still in my heart

Thinking about you has kept me up all night

Making this decision shouldn’t be this hard

But how can I tell you how I feel

When so much is at stake?

My heart can’t take the risk of scaring you away.
