I Bled Poetry

Day after day after day

From my past experiences, to my future days

Every minute has made me who I am today,

From the good, the love, the bad and the ugly

I’ve been happy, I’ve done my time, I’ve paid.

***

From the family I grew up with, the horror ride

To the love and solid connections I discovered,

From the friends, the lovers and the enemies

I’ve picked up the pieces and painfully recovered.

***

From the experiences I’ve gained, lessons learnt

To the mystery of tomorrow, following my dreams,

From the pain, the bruising, the horrid heartache

To the songs of joy and all the silent screams.

***

From the connection to the universe, secret wishes

To the magic and miracles found each day of the year,

From the mysteries and stress of unknown secrets

To the crushing self esteem and terrifying fears.

***

Each joy, love, laughter, happiness, smiles and hugs

All the heartbreak, betrayals, tears, fears and fright,

When my life cut me open and ripped out my heart

I bled poetry, day after day, until I could win the fight.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
