I am Violet
My vibrant petals are delicate and soft to the touch
I am a striking and wild thing born of spring
You dislike my flamboyant nature
So you crush my petals beneath your sole and I hide within myself
I am Indigo
My iridescent plumage is admired by many for its unusual hue
I sing a song of power and strength that is carried on the wind
You want to control this rare thing and quiet my song
So you pluck my feathers for your cap until I am left naked
I am Blue
My waters flow freely, deep below the surface
I am a vast northern lake, shimmering in the sunlight
You see that I am powerful and mysterious
So you use me until I am drained and bare
I am Green
My roots grow deep and strong
I grow like the mighty Baobabs of Madagascar
You see that I have grown tall and proud despite you
So you cut me down until I am no more than kindling
I am Yellow
My skin is radiant and warm like the sun
I decide not to hide and to allow my brilliance to shine
You resent that I burn bright and want me to hide my true self
So you extinguish my light and I am left without my shining shell
I am Orange
I am lava flowing beneath the surface
I am rushing hot under my hard, thick outer layer
I am connected to the entire earth
I rush under every continent, every ocean and deep within the core of myself
You try to still me but I feel a bubbling rage as I peel and chisel my tough skin, made thick by you
At my center now,
I am Red
My skin gleaming a fiery crimson
Like a burning phoenix I am reborn
I am not withered, quieted, empty, cut down, and faded
I am vibrant, loud, free, strong, and brilliant
Every color at once like a prism of light
I exist and I am proud.
