I am, Sir, Silence Dogood

An Acrostic Poem

By Ava MackPublished about a year ago 1 min read

Sixteen-year-old Ben Franklin becomes a woman

in print & name. Mrs. Silence Dogood,

lonely middle-aged widower, has

eyes, a mind, and much to say.

Now seventy, Franklin neé Dogood at the '76

Congress bifocaled watches wigged and hosed men thunder at

each other, imagining what Silence would say.

Had to do a quick bit of research to figure out this one, but such an interesting story Ava! And it's an original take on the Silence concept too, which is refreshing. I love the contrast of "thunder" with the double-play on Silence in the last line. "eyes, a mind, and much to say."- the rhythm of this one stuck with me. Good luck in the challenge:)

Wow. Your intriguing title drew me in (I'm Scottish so didn't get the connections to everything at first. Until quickly googling.) Loved this unique take on the challenge, Ava.

What an ingenious conceit--the inventor of bifocals, no less!
