I am Planted within this beautiful garden

Where stories and people grow in literary abundance

A humble literary seed am I

Planted within a beautiful garden tilled with words

Filled with a treasure trove of wonderful resplendent phrases

Where floral stories grow into literary garlands of splendor

Each bouquet a unique blend of a perfect creator's dream

Which blossom in a resplendence of glorious, riotous colors

Every petal assuming a fragrance of magnificence all its own

I find it so perplexing, the plucking of a favorite rose

Which do I choose, it is yet so puzzling. Is it

The inhaling of a lovely Daffodil or that showy pink Primrose

Oh, which do I choose to savor today?

Will it be the Aster, Peony, Iris or the seemingly coy Dahlia

Is it the bells of the Abutilon, the poisonous Aconite

Or the vibrant diverse blue, gold or orange of the African Daisy

Their fragrances so beguiling and bewitching

I know not which to choose

Every story tells a different tale

Of love, loss, happiness, discovery, joy, hope

Stories of sadness from which arises heroism

And a determination to overcome each obstacle

Though the fight may seem overwhelming and unwinnable

Still, you dive in headfirst, throwing caution to the wind

Today I choose the love of the (Im)perfect Red Rose

To give an ear and a heartfelt reading of their story

It could belong to any of you impressive souls

A story that you trembled to let unfold

Just know that we will delicately

Allow that story to yet become truly whole

So together we continue our literary journey

As we dream in flights of fancy

Of our planted words finding wings to soar

Into this Vocal garden of diversity

Spinning magnificent and opulent new floral buds

To bewitch, beguile and astound the reader's senses

As we dream one and all, of becoming the bloom atop

The Vocal ubiquitous, omnipresent and elusive tree!

Wow, gorgeous and magical. Love it!

  • I'm a bit bias for loving this poem. It combines two loves of my life: plants (I'm an herbalist...like the legit kind who uses basil, rosemary and thyme for naturopathy) and literature. Very well composed poem!

  • Gosh! Your words, imageries, metaphors, were all so vivid and bright. I could see the colours in your words while I was reading this! Truly beautiful!
