I Am An Old Dog

Canine Soulmate

By Julie O'Hara - Author, Poet and Spiritual WarriorPublished 3 years ago Updated 2 years ago 1 min read

I am an old dog

I’ve lived 15 long years

Now, I'm feeble and blind with bad hips

Bad hearing and bad teeth

My spine rides my back

Like a fierce ridgetop

In the desert

As my muscles are deteriorating

And atrophying around my bones

I sleep all the time

I snore like I weigh 300 lbs

And suffer from sleep apnea

But I still love it

When you hug me and love me

And call me “your Doodlebug”

And then scratch the top of my head

And tickle my ears

I turn my chin up toward the

Ceiling when you walk into the room

Deeply sniffing your scent in

I can always find you with my nose

I am your canine soulmate

I am an old dog

I am your old dog

I will love you forever
