Humble Valor
Survivors Guilt
By Earl W. PearlPublished 4 months ago • Updated 4 months ago • 1 min read

I converted in my foxhole, I had shrapnel in my vest
Men were bleeding, some were screaming, I went searching, tho hard pressed
Now they say that I’m a hero, saved the wounded and distressed
Dragging soldiers back to safety, to the medics, ten abreast
Earned a medal for my neck and many more meant for my chest
I don’t feel that I’m a hero, I just simply did my best
I still walk among the living so I’m grateful I’ve been blessed
The true heroes never made it, just remembered, may they rest
