Hope

And should gates strands once more be intertwined . . .

By Mark Zanzibar BoydePublished 6 years ago 2 min read

Cry my love

Scream to the sky what you dare to dream

For with tender hands

I will wipe away your tears

No need for sadness now

The past that held us holds no more

No single footsteps on our shore

Sand has passed through time’s long glass

As wind borne chaff we now are cast

The windmills stopped the rivers dried

For in our hearts all hope had died

What mortal fools we fickle folk

For who are we to turn from Hope

As summer rain love comes and goes

Yet who will say what lives and grows

Our time for love had long since gone

Yet Hope remained and lingered on

Her interest peaked she turned to stay

Deciding what new game to play

As we despairing sought once more

For lovers touch on sandy shore

Hope set a breath towards the land

Blew single footprints from the sand

Windmills spun into the sky

Set free like birds to soar on high

Rivers filled and flowed again

As cloudy skies shed summer rain

Lush grass returned to barren lands

Sown by gentle touch of hands

At lovers touch and lingered gaze

Hope turned again her interest raised

To set two souls upon a path

Once thought endless then long past

Two hearts starved now starve no more

New footprints line the sandy shore

No more this hunger will define

For I am yours and you are mine

Our path was mapped out long ago

Such foolish pair we could not know

Hope had watched and made her plan

A woman lost would find her man

A sparkle would ignite such rage

To carve upon Hope’s empty page

Two wandering souls would dare to fly

To find themselves in storm filled skies

Once brittle hearts we find now healed

A love so rich has been revealed

Hope turned her gaze and looked away

Her interest waning game now played

Of all the loves that ever were

We are as chaff upon the air

Now what becomes of you and me

No matter now our souls fly free
