Early morning

As the day breaks

She wades into familiar water:

A river walked a thousand times

Her home, the forest all around

In the first light

As her voice shakes

She calls out, once, into the silence

Hoping that it answers back

Her name an unfamiliar sound

She hasn’t been here in awhile.

As fishes swim around her feet

She wonders if she still remembers

How to great the breaking dawn

Then she looks beneath, and sees

Each step has made a circle.

The ripples in the river

Have been leading her home along

Beautiful imagery in this Joelle. Thanks for this serene walk in the misty morning light. Parallax of perspectives at the end a fitting 'bend' for the reader's mind... like looking at an object through a glass (or river) of water. Very appropriate and adds dimension to both the ending and the entire piece. Excellent work and thank you for sharing this with us 💙
