Holding On to Goodbye

A Love That Slips Away

By HillaryPublished 11 months ago 1 min read

I reach for you within the quiet of night,

But the space where you stood is empty and light.

My hands get a handle on echoes, my heart calls your title,

However all that remains is the weight of the torment.

I cherished you in ways I might never clarify,

A fire that burned through the sun and the rain.

But adore isn't chains, it can't make you remain,

So I stand at the edge, letting go day by day.

Your giggling still waits, a apparition in my intellect,

A shadow I chase but never can discover.

I know I must take off you where you have a place,

But my heart still plays our unfinished melody.

How do you release a grasp on a dream?

How do you quiet an adore that still shouts?

I tell myself delicately, once more and again—

I ought to let go, but I do not know when.
