Forty days

in the wilderness.

In the wilderness

for forty years.

.

Vows and promises.

Promises and vows.

So will I sing praise unto Thy name forever,

that I may daily perform my vows.

.

The wilderness and the solitary place

shall be glad for them; and

the desert shall rejoice,

and blossom as the rose.

.

Bells and semantrons.

Semantrons and mallets.

Let my prayer arise

in Thy sight as incense.

.

Oil lamps and candles

“Light the lampadas," again.

Pray and make your vows

to the Lord, our God.

.

Sinai. Judea.

Athos. Valaam.

Pray and make your vows

to the Lord, our God.

.

Fingers thumbing rope,

in the wilderness

and the solitary place.

Let my prayer arise.

.

Lord, Jesus Christ,

Son of God,

have mercy on me

a sinner.
