A poem

The trouble with marrying your true love

Is he’s got true loves, too, (and they’re not you)

And they’ve got true loves lining up in droves.

And when self-centered Zeus finds out, he spews

Curses and lightning bolts at those poor boys

Who dare to think their little nymphs are “true.”

And the queen of the mountain has no joy.

Zeus’s love should go by a lighter word.

His feelings are lost; love shouldn’t be coy,

Yet his passion’s run dry for me. The cord

Of marriage wrapping me tight has loosened

‘round him. Never satisfied, he needs more

Than the care one devoted wife can send.

Jealous, though I am, my love never bends.
