Helpless

The Most Vulnerable State

A room with bright fluorescent lights, a ceiling of white tiles, a bed covered in white starchy sheets; I am blinded.

An icy intruder infiltrates my hungry veins, a sharp needle slipped beneath my fragile skin; I am frozen.

My mouth coated with metal, my tongue heavy with the weight of fifty pennies, a repulsive taste; I am sickened.

The cyclic beeping and whirring, hushed voices and whispers, squeaking of carts and sneakers against linoleum; I am silenced.

My nose assaulted by the burn of alcohol and stench of chlorine, the sterility an attempt to erase the pain; but I am suffocating, so let me go.
