Aloka, the Peace Dog
About a stray dog who became global symbol of peace

If you live in the USA,
chances are high,
you know this dog Aloka.
He one of the most-loved dogs,
in the USA right now.
What I did not know is that
Aloka comes from India,
my homeland.
He was a stray dog,
roaming the streets of Kolkata,
the very city,
where Mother Teresa
cared of leprosy patients,
and got Novel prize for peace
way back in 1979.
Aloka started walking with the monks
for 100 days.
They formed a bond,
and adopted him,
bringing him to the USA.
Aloka is fixture of the
venerable groupβs long walk,
on a 3,700 km journey,
to the national capital, Washington, DC.
Aloka has earned the name
the peace dog,
an international symbol of compassion,
well earned.
He got a knee injury,
but still part of the walk,
giving joy to many.
Aloka's life journey
is iconic, worth telling.
