Heat

You pull near, and I feel all of you

Heat

Heat swallows us, thick,

as the curtain of night draws in,

pushing us closer together.

The purple sky deepens,

the low buzz of cicadas threatens

the faint goodbyes we exchange

in quiet refusal of the moment.

You pull near,

and I feel all of you.

Your skin shimmers, mine electrified

by your touch.

Hair under my chin like silk,

small breath on my arm

warm with want.

A flash on the horizon.

Energy pulsing behind black clouds.

Thunder rumbles above us

in the faded black sky.

The fluorescent lights of the parking lot

throw our shadows longer and longer

into the night we struggle to end.
