Heartbeat for Love
A poem and a Buddy Holly song

Memories lie in photos,
taken it seems but yesterday,
now a lifetime ago,
from when we were still teens.
First love, first kiss, first you,
my heartbeat gave me that funny feeling -
that brought back a flood of memories.
Our firsts and our love,
memories that never fade -
even as the years go flying by.
I still remember and I know you remember too,
it was a lot of fun,
just you and me and our love.
The many dances we attended,
the rock and roll beat we shared,
you strumming on your guitar,
wanting to be a rock star.
So many precious memories remain,
my heartbeat still gives me that funny feeling,
when looking at the photos -
of when our love was new.
Heartbeat never fails,
to warn me of those that are untrue,
when false ones come on the scene
and try to break up the joy I feel.
We have grown
and our love has flown,
it’s good to know,
that we are friends,
who shared the yesterdays,
that made us what we are today.
Some of our dreams fulfilled
and some we still hang onto,
now my heart beats for someone who is true
and I know to push aside,
all those who step on my very soul.
As I go down life’s road,
it’s good to know,
that the love I share now,
can give me that same heartbeat,
with those feelings from days gone by,
from the long-gone days,
my heartbeat never fails me -
it knows when it has found love.
