Have you ever watched snow

fall?

Have you ever looked into the halo of light

Around a lamp post

At the snowflakes swarming around it

Like insects?

At the flakes as they drift

In

and

out

of the light?

Or traced the path

Of a single flake

As it swirled through the air?

Sometimes they fall straight

down

Sometimes the wind blows them sideways

Or up

So that the snow seems to be rising

from the ground

As much as

falling

From the sky.

Have you ever looked up

Into grey

fullness

At the white

Flakes

Flying

And

floating

Down

Or tried

To hear the

sound

Of them hitting

The ground

?

You can’t.

They hit completely silently.

Have you ever looked deep

Up into their falling forms

Or listened hard

To their silence

Or felt their

Gentle

Icy

Kisses

on

Your

skin?
