Happy Endings

hard to fine

By Julie O'Hara - Author, Poet and Spiritual WarriorPublished 3 years ago Updated 3 years ago 2 min read

Happy Endings seem impossible to achieve

In this world drowning in a

Sea of desperation and weariness

Trying to walk the straight and narrow line

Which is nothing more than

A tightrope strung over a river covered in fire

A fire only the living waters can extinguish

Sacred waters that give us hope

I try to maintain my balance

While flames lap at my feet and skirts

Threatening to incinerate all I hold dear

The smell of smoke, ash and soot permeates my nostrils

I wonder if I will make it across again

But the prophets and disciples keep cheering me on

And I grasp at faith to keep me strong

So, I don't drown and burn and cease to exist

Is this even survivable?

For anyone?

Overwhelmed by the feeling of

Imminent destruction and doom

I only want to laugh, twirl and dance in circles

Feeling the sunshine on my shoulders

And the wind lifting my hair

But I am forever afraid I will lose my balance and fall

Into the burning volcanic crater below

As I traverse the thin line

Where dreams, hopes and promises

Are few and hard to come by

Much less realizable

In this world that is governed fear and terror

Designed by man to control

As we try to maintain this dangerous balancing act

Of Love and Hatred,

It is sometimes hard to remember

How strongly the Divine delights in us

And just how much we are loved from above

How much we are valued

When we only feel the heat rising underneath us

Threatening the core of who we are

The Universe loves us and wants us to be happy

But mortal mankind is so determined to live lives full

Of hatred, judgment and intolerance

In a hell of their own making

Happy Endings seem impossible to achieve

In this world drowning in a

Sea of desperation and weariness
