Hello to earth

Public Announcement Challenge

By Elle F. Published about 8 hours ago 2 min read

Hello down there, we’ve made it at last,

my name is - you can’t say it so - call us George, like that hero from your past.

Big guy, was he, thought he created something pure?

Something good, something real, something strong that would endure?

Well, look what they’ve done, George, look and see what you see.

I pulled his soul from the depths, you know, and brought him here with me.

We’ve come from far away, you can’t even conceive,

but soon you will die, and then you’ll believe.

But we digress, and soon time will run out;

I must say why we’re here and leave you in no doubt.

For your life here is done, you’ve all had your turn,

we’ve watched and we’ve hoped but your demons have won.

Oh, you say you’ve come far, but then explain to me this:

after 300,000 years given you as a gift,

why your earth is still filled with such horror and rift.

Your fear and your rage, your inability to see

that you’re all exactly alike - there’s no difference to me! -

they rose up within you and swallowed you whole,

your eyes, your ears, your heart and your soul.

Now hear me out, I know that there’s good;

I know that there’s homes where kids would and they could

grow up with love, with sweetness and light,

and go to wage war on the dark rage of night.

Yes, some have won, just as they prayed,

and they made the world better, for a year or a day.

Don’t worry for we - that life and that light -

We’ll carry them forward to the next page we write.

They’ll remember you there, I promise you this:

They’ll remember you fought against the abyss.

And before we go, now, George wants you to know,

that though he saw this coming, all those years ago,

it was worth it, he says, the time of this earth,

for all of you who’ve lived, had something of worth.

Well, goodbye, whoever is there.

Take in this time to breathe the sweet air.

What’s that, you there, why do you kneel?

No I’m not god - in fact god isn’t real;

So stand up, stand tall, and before you die,

go to this moment with your chin raised high.

For were I god, I assure you true,

I would surely have something much better to do.
