This is for Poppy’s #9 challenge and ‘candle’ prompt. Join the literary fun here!

A candle in the wind, or in the dark. Its light is ever a beacon of inspiration.

Indeed, a candle is a guardian that provides light when all seems dark, refusing to die. It guards against our fear of the unknown. Our fears of aging and disorder crumble before it.

It melts away the chains of of limiting beliefs, giving courage to faint hearts.

May it continue to inspire. Enjoy these free verses.

🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️

Beneath the winds of darkness, cold,

Where shadows densely lie

A small flame burns, a tale unfolds,

Hope’s light that will not die.

🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️

In Darkness’ grasp, where She was slain,

A whisper soft yet bold,

The candle’s flame, though small, maintains,

A triumph to behold.

🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️

In the mirror, her face once fair,

Scarred by cruel hands of time

Yet in the wounds, strength now laid bare,

That keeps it in its prime

🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️

Chaos reigns with fury blind,

A storm not to contain,

But in its wake, a light we find,

Becomes now her refrain.

🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️

Chains that once did bind the soul,

Melt in the warming light,

Hope’s candle, burning strong and whole,

Restores faint heart’s true sight.

I'd never really quite so explicitly thought of a candle in this light

“Yet in the wounds, strength now laid bare, that keeps it in its prime” is such a powerful line! It reminds me of those older couples who have been together forever. The ones where as the years pass like water in a flowing river, they can only find new things to love.
