Visual imagery resides
Within spatial representation
Mechanics of perception
Draw a map
Its dotted lines
Stretch and wind
Etching out mountains
Forests, plains
Mind’s cartography rendered
Behind closed eyes
What if I am the breeze
Tumbling and whirling
Above static landscape
Stick your hand
Out the car window
As you drive fast
I am the force
Lifting your palm
Drawing thoughts upward
To dream lofty dreams
Do not resist me
Pressing you down
Descend into truths
Anchored in evergreen soil
Every tree belongs
To the forest
Like you
Trees talk
Did you know
Mycorrhizal fungi facilitate
Arborous conversations
Through the slow pulse
Of phloem and xylem
An altitudinous fir
Guards weald’s gate
Press forehead to bark
Offer exhalation as tribute
Pay homage
In honour of ancient majesty
Blessing bestowed; shallow indentations
Grant safe passage
Jocular winding trails
Escort me through
Cordillera valleys
As I trail my fingers
Through soft, unfurling ferns
Inhaling woodland zephyrs
Eyes note landmarks
So I may
Retrace my steps
To guide me
Back home
About the Creator
Aspen Marie
In love with life and all of its foibles.
