The world awakens to a cacophony of noise,
And yet we know it as silence and quietude,
Not a car moving on the deserted streets,
The air still, the wind still slumbers,
The sun rising her cheeky head over the horizon,
And the airwaves break into chorus as the birds twitter and tweet.
**
Sunday has arrived in all her glory,
Dressed to the nines with her sky blue hat,
Green fabric draping her beautifully,
Barefoot and earthed for all to gaze upon,
As the birds dance and prance upon her shoulders,
Filling the air with their chatter and joy.
**
Sunlight chases the shadows from the corners of my room,
Dissolving the sleepiness of fresh awakened eyes,
Warmth encasing a body of little rest,
Washing the stress from my mind,
If only for a few precious minutes,
Good morning dear world.
**
So much on today’s to do list,
But time will need to wait a little longer,
I lay and enjoy all the day is offering,
Allowing the warm rays to massage my skin,
Free my mind, dissolve my worries,
Leaving me to enjoy this simple pleasure.
**
For how long will the human noises lay quiet?
Soon the world will wake from its slumber,
Overriding the music of our feathered friends,
And only then will I rise to tackle all that’s to be done,
But for these few precious minutes,
I’ll enjoy my time of peace, of solitude, of gratitude, of silence.

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
