"Go confidently in the direction of your dream".

Live the the life you've imagined. Things you can't say out loud.

"Go confidently in the direction of your dream".

I read the quote, feeling very upbeat and fully energetic

Smiling happily, I started chasing after Thoreau

He must have some wise secrets to impart to me

An instruction manual on successfully realizing my dreams

I called out his name, importuning him to wait for me

But he just dissolved into the unknown...wisps of smoke

The only proof that he was ever there

Centuries had passed since he existed here...so there is that

It seems that I had been chasing after a ghost

Aren't all wishful dreams ghosts...dispersing to the winds of time

WELL SHIT(e)!!!...............Please excuse the pun...But

What the hell was Thoreau thinking?

Who goes confidently in the direction of their blinking dreams these days...or any days for that matter....

Without fate kicking you in the fanny, causing you to fall flat on your face, or you loose your footing and fall on your backside

Obstacles abound, like thorns in your flesh, ever pricking

As soon as you pull one free, others pierce through your skin, mockingly taking its place.

"Live the the life you've imagined"?????? Is that a barbed joke

Even the wealthy seems miserable, happiness waxing very evasive

Except, it seemed to have worked for Thoreau, of course...

And probably a very lucky few, somewhere reserved for the fortunate

Thoreau had cheerfully gone and lived in the woods, with no contact with the world outside, to meddle and muddle up his senses and emotions.

He could just sit around and write, chop wood, fish and take long healthy brooding walks in the uncharted, unmolested woods.

Oh, how much simpler life must have been two centuries ago...

Fresh air, unpolluted by modernization and the 'joy' of social media

His brain uncluttered by the need for comments, likes or the insipid desire for popularity

Wild animals to nibble on him without any given notice...ha ha ha.

Still, it seems worth the risk...for peace and quiet

Or maybe life was pretty much going the way life always was

Maybe some of us are just crappy at life and living

Looking for excuses to make things miserable for ourselves and everybody else

Glass half full or glass half empty

It is up to us to choose

Hold on, my dear Thoreau...

Leave some room for me!

The woods sounds like a most wonderous place to...

"Go confidently in the direction of my dream".

Live the the life I've always imagined.

I know what you mean but I do still like that quote. Happiness is elusive, uber (not the car service) presence is key. I’m not on a lot, but just saying a quick hi dear Novel! Hope you are well. Happy to see you writing and keeping on. Best sent! ☺️

Awesome and uplifting. Relate well to modernization and “joy” of social media

  • This was very uplifting! Loved it so much!

Spooky! We must be going for a similar state of mind and thoughts. I say this because, as strange as it may sound, I, today, was sitting here looking at the green outside and thinking about Thoreau, his nature writing, him living in the woods escaping from a much simpler world than the one we have today, yet, it was perhaps overwhelming for him as much as I feel everything is overwhelming right now for me, especially the “blessings” of social media which has become almost unbearable and so hard to keep up with, not letting space in my mind to think, to observe my thoughts, to enjoy some peaceful silence. And I was wondering if I should write about just that. Then, I read this! :D Unbelievable. I don’t know what are the odds that two people can be thinking about the same thing at the same time? AND, yeah, what the heck was he thinking!

This would’ve made Mr. Thoreau proud in the most profound way. Your simple but bold lines speak to a life to chart make the most of since we only have one go-round in thus universe. I must say that the glass is always half-full because you can’t fill a glass of emptiness. There had to have content to begin with, fellow poet. Keep writing greatness, Novel. —S.S.

I loved this! Equal parts hilarious, honest, and quietly hopeful.

Nature always makes things better, so his living there was a paradise we could all hope for.
