Glass Chess
A Poem on Romantic Fragility
This is for Mikeydred's Truly July challenge. There are still a few days left to go, so do read the requirements here!
Chess. A classic, go-to game of mental power and manipulation, with each party trying to gain intellectual one-upmanship.
Relationships often become games of chess (no, not thrones today). Each party tries, strategically, with pawns, knights, castles, the queen, and finally the hapless king, to outwit one another.
But if played this way (especially with glass pieces), the game often leads to a chaotic mess, with shattered pieces on the floor, lost, or possibly broken.
The chessboard's hard to put together again.
Enjoy these Nonets.
Love
Chess game
Small pieces
Moved on the board
Players plan, outwit
Compete with hassled pawns
Pieces that try to move forth
Wily minds focused, self-serving
On the goal of the useless king
Love
Chess game
Pawns that move
With selfish scheme
Moves planned to outwit
Fury builds as pieces shift
In unorchestrated frenzy
Delicate pieces fall and break on the floor.
