GHOST

Now you see me

I’ll walk away from the table one day

And nobody there will ever see or hear from me again

I’ll say “see ya later” with the intention of never having contact again

I’ll stand up at a gathering and say “time to go” and I mean forever

When I am there, you talk about me like I’m not there

When I speak, you whisper to each other like I’m deaf and blind

You spread the rumors about me to me

Kids say the “darndest” things

It is me who is embarrassed when I confront you

About the horrible things you said

You punish me with the silent treatment

I didn’t notice

Because I walked away

Why are you surprised that I ghosted you,

When it was you who turned me into a ghost?
