Constant little things

Why are you doing it that way?

Eroding the edges

Did you mean to leave the comal on?

Carving pits into holes

The snide smirk that tells me you think I’m an idiot or clueless

Pulling on the loose thread

Did you know you didn’t lock the back door?

Chipping away at the foundation

The direct eye contact with me as you whisper out of the side of your mouth to another

The burst of laughter as you both blatantly focus on me

Infusion of toxins

Did you know you left the toaster plugged in?

Trimming the growth

I told you last week that I was doing this today, don’t you listen?

Becoming smaller and smaller

I was an imperfect whole

Now I am diminished

heartbreak
