Generation work
Ode to the latchkey kid

We were just seedlings
Among majestic trees
Tiny radicles and taproots
Forging their way
In the sterile dirt
Because that’s all we had
But a look around
Proved if we dug deep
We could reach for the sky
Dance with the wind
Soak up the sun
We were just kids
Trying to figure things out
Among a world of adults
Too busy for playtime or storytelling
But we watched their daily sacrifice
They put food on the table
Sent us to school
While they grew weary
Our branches spread wide
Flowers bloomed and fruits ripened
Life lessons learned

The way you connect the natural imagery of roots and branches to life lessons is so powerful. It makes the struggles of childhood feel tangible and alive.
Very well done here!
This one hits close to home. Well deserved top story. 👏🏻
Beautiful!
This is a beautiful poem about the sacrifices that generations before us have made to make opportunities as limitless as the sky available to us. Well done, and good luck on the challenge!
