Gathered Signposts of Rubáiyát

Seize youth in fullness young

Where laughter lifts from every tongue

Secure in hearts and joyous play

Held breaths on lips suspended sung

Roam miles while you have sway

Ere duty calls to claim its day

Assigns ordered ranks to fall

In line on swords battlefields to lay

*

Heed love from moment’s call

Surrender heart its kingdom’s hall

Naked of ego pride and care

Such union can a war forestall dare you believe in love at all

*

Support heavy burdens people share

Shattered songs to soothe despair

It requires little to meet their gaze

Your steadfast presence precious there when days are foul and days are fair

*

Honor age that spent its days

Releasing strength and growing grays

Let blessings not from you be hid for all they said and all they did

Rest roses sweet in humble praise for newborn eyes glimpse ancient ways
