A Poem

Endless blue sky, as blue as cornflowers

Soft gentle grass, a velvety blanket

Lofty and ancient, trees stronger than iron

Delicate leaves rustling in the light wind

Stone tiles warmed up, from hot summer sun

Chairs, tables, benches, spread out all around

Covered in folders, glasses of water

Newspapers, ashtrays, choco-milks, teas

Assortment of people, mixing together

Laughing and joking, supporting each other

Sharing their stories and listening closely

Forging new friendships, more intimately

Hundreds of rabbits, hopping and leaping

Dogs and their walkers, passing by slowly

Birds soaring high above, butterflies low

Colourful flowers, outline the grounds

The breeze whistles through the woodland around

Gunshots of hunters, distant thuds echo

Quiet crunching of gravel sounds underfoot

And chatter and laughter steal through my window

My world is beautiful, peaceful and calm

In this fine moment, my thoughts disappear

Forget where I am and why I came here

Illusion shattered as the nurse checks on me
