From a Speck's Perspective
A part of the painting
By Laura JohnsonPublished 5 years ago β’ 1 min read

There is no pigment
Crafted so meticulously
That it cannot be recreated;
But with every brushstroke
Time and place irrevocably,
Is a masterpiece cemented.
So I claim no one original quality
In the face of humanity's history;
With every head a single speck
From the perspective of infinity.
Yet, divided into shades,
From black to white to gray,
We necessarily intermingle
into unimagined intricacies.
We rely on colors contrasting
To give our identities meaning,
And are born onto a palatte
with a monochromatic leaning
As people pretend harmony
is the presence of a single hue,
when the reverse is really true-
Diversity balanced is our virtue
