From a Child's point of view

How are are they coping in the world today

Can we try to visualize the world today

from the point of view of a child?

Have we taken their innocence and simple joys

And crushed them in the palms of our hands

Have we disregarded their need to saturate

Their little lives with pure love and laughter

And reach out in everyday wonder and joyfulness

The joy of chasing a butterfly or a moth around a flame

Of catching a firefly in their little bottle

and laughingly watching them glow with delight

While asking the question, "how do they do that"?

Do they have the time to ask the age old questions:

Why is the sky blue? why is fire hot, why does it rain

Why, why, why. Or do they cower in fear somewhere?

Would that their innocent minds could not see

The inundation of grown up drama and troubles

Blinding their unadulterated purity with horrors

Of misunderstood and unexplained world events

Robbing them of love, togetherness and camaraderie

and true friendships forged from childhood

Into teenage and adulthood so cherished and adored

We should all weep for the children everywhere

We should all weep for the loss of innocence and joy

We should join our hands of freedom around the world

Join our hearts in commiseration for one and all

In hopes for the changes and loving kindness

So desperately needed as a balm and salve for our souls

To make our children be children again in their young ages

Gradually learning and cherishing the myriad of stages

That goes into growing from childhood to learned maturity

And not first be forced into maturity then to wonder

Where did my childhood go, whilst first I was busy

Learning how to be an adult?
