Frayed Sweater

And Fairy Tales

You keep me around like your favorite frayed sweater

hanging in the hall, waiting on cooler weather

Comfy and cozy, barely held together

like the threads loosely hanging, making you feel better

You traded your pills for the pills on my fabric

reigniting a fire out of nothing, like magic

The fickle way that you love is perfectly tragic

feelings pulled out of thin air, like a rabbit and hat trick

I should walk away, but I fell for your hook

like that sweater of yours, waiting for you to look

And revive us once more with the warmth of your touch

but you put us away when you feel too much

So, I'll hang on this hook providing meals for the moths

until you crave once more, the soft touch of my cloth

Reviving the fire when your soul feels lost

until you are content and casually take me back off

Like that tattered old sweater that you can't seem to part with

you keep me locked away like a professional locksmith

Leading me believe love offers unattainable wishes

where the prince saves the girl with his magical kisses

In a box on a shelf, until you discard me

your sweater and I await patiently

Withering away, yet, forever yours, faithfully

craving love that you offer occasionally

    Beautiful, love the comparisons.

Sounds like my marriage. I got tired of being the "frayed sweater" though...

Good friends are like old cozy sweaters that some people can't seem to give up. Good job.
