Forgotten Light

Moments of Silence Acrostic Challenge

Stately and silent, the swans swim languidly within my

Imagination, their cygnets milling about

Like children who cannot grasp the horrors in the depths below, bright

Eyes darting like dappled butterflies on the wing. I hear but do

Not see my quiet surroundings, the

Cool lake air on my skin reviving

Echos of hazy summer memories and forgotten light.

A very true look at the life of a swan and her cygnets, the darkness can’t stay away from even the peaceful things. Quite nice of you to bring our attention to the appearance of a dappled wing. Very nicely done.

Well-wrought! I happened upon a blue herron on my walk home yesterday. I see them every once in a while, fishing in the same pond, stalking the shallow waters by the bank. Not quite a elegant as the swan, but cognate with your reminiscences here, I thought that we poets are like the herron, plucking memories from the murk and mud on the edge of our minds. You captured that here so well!

Oooh...I love the delicate balance between the serenity of the cygnets with their parents and the threat of danger. It's not enough to take away from the beauty, but just a reminder, as Rachel noted. Wonderful entry, sir. I'd echo DK's words, your poems are always stunning! :)

How deep can you go? There is so much going on, so much to interpret. The reader can really drift off into this, like I did. Great entry, John!

You’ve intertwined shadows and light so expertly in this! Stunning use of the swan imagery and that all too fragile beauty

Oh those signets, us, in moments of pleasure.

Beautiful. And the cadence is mesmerizing--you captured it. With the one panic of danger below sea level, the innocent lolliwag.

I felt that little poem! Made me smile, thank you😊

What a peaceful scene, except for the threat to the cygnets! But I like the fact that you included that, to remind us of how delicate these moments are and that they can be torn apart in an instant.

  • Oh wow, that felt so blissful! I loved it wo much!

This is both beautiful and deep. It seems the narrator has lost either his vision or his soild. Excellent work
